Our Approach

The Community Knows the Way

At RR, we believe that knowledge comes from within, and the communitiy itself is our best resource. Our role is not to show and tell, but to listen and facilitate. In order to serve as allies, we must ask the indigenous, denizens, and elders where our skillsets can be best put to use.

Too often, in contexts of helping, concepts of saviorism and western ideas inform non-profit projects. At RR, we know that any support must come from a place of respect rather than declaring that “we know best.” We communicate regularly to ensure that we are all working towards the same goals, and approach every action with a de-colonial, anti-exploitative, and deferential mindset. Together, we are able to co-create initiatives that utilize harm-reduction practices and are community-led, trauma-informed and person-centered.

At Rise in Resiliency, we invest in marginalized populations so that they may be empowered to connect to their inherent resiliency and receive support in contributing to their communities’ needs.

To do this, we support and engage communities through the co-creation of community-led holistic health initiatives.

We partner with local leaders in rural and Indigenous communities to serve their identified needs and visions for their communities, furthering their mission and helping transform lives.

Constant Collaboration

Our Executive Director, Anna Claybaugh, lives in Costa Rica and works directly with our partners within the communities we serve.

With local leaders, we help them develop the programming they need from infancy to independence. We meet them where they are and help build out their projects rather than bulldoze through them. We are a learning organization that has feet on the ground and an ear to the people themselves in order to continue evolving the ways in which we serve.

What kind of organization do we partner with? The kind that has a passion for holistic wellbeing and the future of their community.

Our goal is to instill longterm postive change within a community through an integrative and comprehensive approach to health. Optimal health does not stop at physical health– it also includes the mental, social, emotional, and spiritual.

Our initiatives focus on creating long-term change through sustainable efforts like skills training and organizational support. These efforts include relationship-building and impactful programming– no bandaids or rapid relief. Ultimately, we strive to create self-sufficiency in the communities we work with so they can continue succeeding for generations to come. As a collaborative organization, we are commited to checking our privilege and keep space for feedback and mindful evolution.
